Wireless Access Points (WAP)

A Wireless Access Point (WAP), or more generally just access point (AP), is a networking hardware device that allows other Wi-Fi devices to connect to a wired network. The AP usually connects to a router (via a wired network) as a standalone device, but it can also be an integral component of the router itself. An AP is differentiated from a hotspot, which is a physical location where Wi-Fi access is available.

Access points, unlike range extenders, can handle multiple simultaneous connections each. By installing access points throughout an office, for example, users can roam freely from room to room without experiencing network interruptions. As they move through the building, their devices shift seamlessly from one access point to the next without dropping the connection.

When you have both employees and guests connecting with desktops, laptops, mobile phones, and tablets, several devices on a wireless network adds up quickly; so access points give you the freedom to scale the number of devices supported on your network.

Business-grade access points can be installed anywhere you can run an Ethernet cable. Newer models are also compatible with Power over Ethernet Plus, or PoE+ (a combination Ethernet and power cord), so there is no need to run a separate power line or install an outlet near the access point.

In conjunction with our trusted partners, PCC Network Solutions offers indoor and outdoor wireless access points (WAP) to fit just about any budget, performance requirement, or deployment scenario. WAP can provide secure, reliable access to the WiFi, no matter what you’re challenged with: high client density, Wi-Fi-unfriendly building materials, or simply rising employee or customer expectations.
